CMHA/Peel Branch is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board, comprised of volunteers, follows the Carver Model. This model of governance sets out strict guidelines, roles and parameters with which Board Members must comply. Each position on the Board is clearly defined, so members know what they are expected to do and the extent of their authority. For example, the Board of Directors trusts hired staff to do their jobs, in so far as daily operations and programs are concerned and monitors that through specific policies; whereas the Board guides the direction the organization should be taking and concentrates on planning and policy-setting. Board members are consumers, family members, professionals and citizens with a general interest in mental health.
